A BIBLICAL ANALOGY

The biblical text recounts the story of a nation in exile. Struggling with identity issues and displacement, they sorrowfully discard their musical instruments and long for home (Ps. 137).

In God's timing, they did eventually return home, with a mandate to rebuild, restore and renew the ancient ruins of their homeland that had been desolate for many generations (Isa. 61:4). Before the work of restoration could begin on the Temple (church) and the walls (societal structures), a way had to be prepared for the people to travel home. The stones had to be removed and a highway built (Isa. 62:10).

StoneWorks is a global arts partnership established to help prepare the way for the emerging generation of Christians involved in the arts-as culture formers and cultural reformers—and to see the arts and the imagination celebrated in the life and mission of the church and its individual members as “signposts of hope” to our world.

StoneWorks is a catalyst to bring together Christians leaders, innovators and culture makers in the spheres of church, marketplace, education and missions, to partner together and share resources in the task of culture formation and cultural reformation.

StoneWorks envisages the time when Christians engaged in the arts will be excellent in their craft, spiritually mature in their walk, humble in their attitude, servant-hearted in motivation, moral in lifestyle, and uncompromising in their faithfulness to Christ—in every diverse cultural context of our world, exhibiting a lifestyle of creativity and beauty, pointing to the day in which the Original Artist will make “all things new.”
